Josephine Schmidt, 97

Josephine C. Schmidt, age 97, of Sturgis, passed away early Monday morning, October 4, 2021 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born December 4, 1923 in Sturgis, daughter of the late Ed and Clara (Dobberteen) Schmidt.
Josephine was a lifelong Sturgis resident with the exception of the 18 years she lived in Grand Rapids. She was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1942.
Josephine was a beautician and cosmetologist her entire working life. She retired in 1995 from Midge’s Beauty Salon in Sturgis following 20 years of dedicated employment. She also worked as a beautician for 18 years at the Herpolsheimer’s Department Store in Grand Rapids.
She was a lifelong active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis where she was baptized March 30, 1924 and confirmed March 21, 1937. For many years she was a member of the Altar Guild and she enjoyed gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother: David Schmidt and cousins: William Dobberteen and Eugene Schmidt.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Josephine C. Schmidt will be held at 12:30 P.M. Friday, October, 15th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Calvin Kolzow will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
