Police chase leads to arrest

St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Deputies and officers from the Sturgis Police Department arrested an Indiana man after using stop sticks to slow the vehicle he was driving.

Law-enforcement officials said LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department deputies on Monday pursued a vehicle heading north out of Indiana and into Sturgis.

Sturgis police continued the pursuit. Sheriff’s officials, meanwhile, deployed stop sticks, which eventually flattened the suspect vehicle’s tires.

The 29-year-old man, an Elkhart resident, was taken into custody in the 69000 block of Texas Avenue, just west of South Centerville Road. He was charged with fleeing and eluding, and was also wanted on a warrant, authorities said.
