Local teams continue in football playoffs

Five local varsity football teams will take the field this weekend, as district championships are on the line.

Four of the games are at 7 o’clock this evening, including two teams in 8-man football.

In a rematch of an earlier contest this season, Mendon will play Martin. The game is at Delton-Kellogg High School due to poor field conditions at Martin High School

Mendon is 8-2, while Martin is 10-0. Martin won the regular-season matchup, 28-20.

Meanwhile, Colon is 9-1 and travels to Morrice to take on a 10-0 opponent.

Also tonight, 9-1 White Pigeon hosts 6-4 Saugatuck in 11-man football.

In addition, a Saturday contest features a rematch of last year’s District championship, as Constantine hosts Jackson County’s Michigan Center High School. The Falcons are 10-0 while the Cardinals are 9-1.

That game starts at 1 o’clock.

Finally, after a 9-7 win over Vicksburg in the opening round of the playoffs a week ago, Three Rivers goes up against Wolverine Conference champion Edwardsburg.

The Wildcats are 6-4; the host Eddies are 10-0.

The game will be carried live on WRCI 97.1 FM beginning at 6:50 p.m. The broadcast will also be streamed online at wrciradio.com.
