Woman arrested after fleeing police

A 48-year-old Mishawaka woman was arrested Friday afternoon in Sturgis on numerous felony charges after leading police on a brief pursuit through the city.

Officers received a call from St. Joseph County Central Dispatch at 3:28 p.m. regarding a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner on U.S.12 and approaching the city limits.

Responding officers located the vehicle and witnessed several traffic violations. The vehicle was stopped in a business parking lot in the 400 block of South Centerville Road. As officers tried to make contact with the driver, she fled and led officers on a short vehicle pursuit. That pursuit ended near the intersection of West South Street and South Nottawa Street and, after a brief struggle, the driver was taken into custody.

The woman was charged with numerous felonies, including fleeing and eluding police and felony driving while intoxicated. Authorities said it was the eighth time the woman had been arrested for driving while intoxicated.
