Corene May Baker, age 88, of Mendon, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021.
She was born in Wyandotte, Michigan on Aug, 26, 1933 the daughter of Robert and Nelda (Pidcock) Cox. She graduated from Roosevelt High School and later attended Wayne County Community College. Corene was married to Rev. Marion Baker on July 6, 1950 in Wyandotte. They pastored in the Church of God of Prophesy for churches in Taylor, Flat Rock, and Wyandotte. Corene was a seamstress employed by Wayne County, Michigan for many years. After retiring in 1998 to Mendon, she continued to sew for the Commission on Aging. She loved to cook, and will be remembered for the many beautiful wedding cakes made for family and friends. She enjoyed playing the piano, and led music for many Worship services. She was also a gifted oil painter.
Corene is survived by her husband, Marion; five children, Diana Barnes of Sturgis, Daniel (Pam) Baker of Taylor, Donald Baker of Sturgis, Dennis Baker and Dale (Debbie) Baker both of Mendon; eight grandchildren; several great, and great-great grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Diana) Cox; sister, Nelda Jones; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Roberta and Debbie; and a son, David.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has been conducted. The family is planning a memorial service in the Spring of 2022, and will be announced by the Eickhoff Funeral Home of Mendon. Memories may be shared at www.eickhofffuneralhome.com
