Former Colon teacher passed away

The village of Colon has lost a pillar of its community.

David Farrell, a former school teacher, key component of the Colon Historical Society and deacon at Colon Baptist Church, passed away Saturday following a brief illness. His wife and three children were by his side.

John Kroeger, a deacon at Colon Baptist Church, said Farrell was a man whose reputation was shaped by faith, compassion, humbleness and commitment to goodwill.

Farrell was 81 years old. He was a teacher at Colon Community Schools for three decades, but was equally acknowledged for his role with Colon Baptist Church, where he was a fill-in pastor and oversaw hundreds of funerals.

In addition, Farrell was a key member of the Colon Historical Society.

Arrangements are being handled by Schipper Funeral Home in Colon.
