Michigan COVID cases down

Michigan reported more than 46,000 new cases of coronavirus in the week ending Dec. 19, down 7.3 percent from the previous week.

Meanwhile, St. Joseph County reported 227 cases and 10 deaths in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 327 cases and six deaths. Throughout the pandemic, it has reported 10,601 cases and 152 deaths.

Cases fell in 61 Michigan counties, with the sharpest declines in Macomb, Kent and Genesee counties.

Within Michigan, the highest number of cases on a per-person basis in the latest count were in Luce and St. Clair counties.
