Out and About – Week of December 20th

Unless you are Santa Claus, it is too late to send gifts to family and friends via the US Postal System. To all you men, you still have two full days to do your Christmas shopping. No need to worry.

Growing up here in Three Rivers, it was always fun to go with my parents and drive all over Three Rivers and take in the many Christmas lights on display. Halverson Chapel was in our neighborhood and it was fun to see the upside down Santa in the chimney. Things have changed over the years, but there are still some great displays of lights. All you have to do is gather the family and get Out and About. You still have a few days left to check out one of the most elaborate displays. Riverside Church on East Michigan Avenue in Three Rivers would like to invite everyone to take in their “River Lights of Wonder”. Tomorrow, December 23, is the last day to walk or drive through the display, which will include a narration of the first Christmas story. Friday, Christmas Eve, you may drive through the display, then park and engage in the many activities, which include: a bonfire; candy cane maze; a ride on the lollypop train; and of course, some hot cocoa. The display will remain open from 6PM until 8:30PM for the rest of the year, but will only include the many colored lights. If you’d like more information, please visit riverlightsofwonder.com.

In Three Rivers, we no longer have taxi cabs to get us wherever we need to go, but we do have the St. Joseph County Transportation Authority. For the past several years, the Authority has provided FREE transportation for those needing a ride home from an establishment that serves adult alcoholic beverages on New Years Eve. There are a few rules to abide by, however. These include:

Rides may be requested to the establishment and home only. NO PARTY STOPS.
No pre-booking. Just call for your FREE ride when you are ready to go home.
Only legitimate St. Joseph County addresses will be acknowledged.
Service is available between the hours of 8PM and 2AM.
There are two numbers to call, should you want this service:

For Three Rivers, Mendon and Constantine – (269)244-0946
For Sturgis, Colon and White Pigeon – (269)244-0766
The Transportation Authority would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. They would also like to advise everyone that if you drink, please don’t drive. They want to see everyone on their buses in 2022.

Instead of giving everyone a Christmas gift, I’d like to share several words of wisdom:

Believe in the goodness of others.
Put your mind in gear before you put your tongue in action.
Be the solution.
I’d like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas. Enjoy the season and especially the reason for the season. Enjoy some family time and remember those who don’t have a real family to share time with this year. Have more patience with each other and remember to be kind.

“If you’re just an average man wanting to look the best you can, use BURMA SHAVE”

See you Out and About!
