New commander for MSP in Marshall

First Lt. Barry Schrader took over last week as the new commander for the Michigan State Police post in Marshall.

Schrader will command District 5, Region 4, after Lt. Jim Coleman transferred to command the Hart post in September following more than a decade in Coldwater, then Marshall. The Marshall post provides service to Branch, Calhoun and St. Joseph counties.

Schrader started with MSP more than 21 years ago. The Charlotte-area resident most recently was at the training academy southwest of Lansing.

Schrader is taking his first weeks to travel to the three counties under his command to meet with sheriffs, local law enforcement, fire chiefs and dispatch-center directors. He will discuss law enforcement and public safety issues.
