Omicron found in St. Joseph County

Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency last week was notified of the first identified cases of the Omicron variant in St. Joseph County.

Medical director Karen Luparello said it is important to know that not all COVID tests are sequenced, so it is likely there are additional cases. She encourages residents to continue using standard-mitigation strategies that include staying home if not feeling well, washing hands frequently, wearing a mask in public or crowded spaces and getting vaccinated.

Vaccination is proven to reduce symptom severity, prevent hospitalizations and deaths, she added.

The agency continues to offer free curbside testing at all locations: Coldwater’s office on Thursdays and Three Rivers on Fridays.

All clinics are open 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Appointments for vaccination at the Health Agency can be made at bhsj.org. Local hospitals, physician offices, and pharmacies can also provide testing and vaccination.
