SMLC resumes Saturday volunteer program

Southwest Michigan Land Conservancy has announced the resumption of its Saturday Volunteer Workdays program.

Its first workday will take place Saturday at a St. Joseph County property it owns: Hidden Marsh Sanctuary. Saturday’s event takes place 1 to 4 p.m. at the Buckhorn Road property.

Event organizers said the focus will center on brush removal, which will include lopping, chopping, dragging and stacking invasive vines and shrubs, opening sight lines and allowing more light into the 38-acre woodland.

No special skills or strengths are required, just a willing attitude and a desire to give something back to the community.

Reservations are not necessary but would be appreciated, as a firm number of volunteers allows organizers the opportunity to plan for an appropriate quantity of tools and snacks. The conservancy’s office can be reached by phoning 324-1600.
