Constantine Village Council members last week decided against refurbishing the municipality’s fire station.
Village manager Mark Honeysett submitted an estimate of $39,000 from Roberts Brothers Excavating to demolish the building and remove all concrete. A conservative estimate shows it would cost nearly $267,000 to rehabilitate the station.
Honeysett recommended relocating the fire department to the site of the former D&S, at 175 Washington Street. The village purchased the building in 2018 after foreclosure for non-payment of taxes.
