Darlene May Rentz, age 86, of Sturgis, went to be with her Heavenly Father Saturday morning, March 26, 2022 at her home.
She was born March 18, 1936 in Vicksburg, daughter of the late Luther and Ocia (Sell) Pinkerton.
Darlene resided in Sturgis since 1959. Her early life was spent in Constantine where she was a graduate of Constantine High School with the class of 1954. Following her graduation she furthered her education at Airline Communications School in Minneapolis, Minnesota where she met Warren D. “Bud” Rentz. The couple was united in marriage March 5, 1955 in Center City, Minnesota.
She had been employed as a bookkeeper with Bucknell Insurance Agency and as a secretary for Trinity Lutheran School, both in Sturgis.
She was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sturgis.
Darlene loved dogs, crafts, sewing, cooking, baking, playing her organ, camping and was an avid reader.
She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 67 years: Warren “Bud”; four sons: Bruce (Maria) Rentz and Brian (Tania) Rentz both of Grand Rapids, Marc (Babs) Rentz of Madison Heights, Virginia and Craig (Barna) Rentz of Sturgis; 13 grandchildren: Lisa, Adam, Kasie, Erin, Mary, Jenny, Matthew, Michelle, Seth, Ashley, Aidan, Adamay and Colin; 13 great grandchildren; one nephew and five nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister: Phyllis Musser; two brothers: Paul and Carl Pinkerton and nephew: David Pinkerton.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the Hackman Chapel of Hackman Family Funeral Homes, 114 S. Nottawa St. in Sturgis and from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sturgis where funeral services celebrating the life of Darlene Rentz will immediately follow the visitation at 11:00 A.M. The Rev. Darin Warnecke will officiate. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
