Sturgis man arrested on dozens of charges

A Sturgis man faces more than three dozen felony charges after he was involved in a traffic stop last week in Sherman Township.

Sheriff Mark Lillywhite said deputies stopped a car shortly after 8:30 p.m. Friday in the 64000 block of Balk Road for an equipment violation.

The 40-year-old driver was found to have been operating the vehicle with no license. Through further investigation, deputies located fictitious identification cards from three different states, tools used for counterfeiting bills, blank business checks and several counterfeited checks.

The suspect, who faces 39 felony charges, is awaiting arraignment, Lillywhite said.
