Bill Hartman, 90

William E. Hartman, age 90, of Waterford, and a former Sturgis resident, passed away peacefully with family by his side at the Huron Valley- Sinai Hospital in Commerce Township, Michigan on March 5, 2022.

He was born November 6, 1931, in Howe, Indiana son of the late Evert S. and Belva H. (Summey) Hartman.

Bill’s early life was spent in the LaGrange area. When Bill was 14, the family moved to Beloit, Wisconsin and returned to LaGrange where he finished his junior and senior years of high school graduating from LaGrange High School with the class of 1949. He lived in White Lake for several years and following his retirement in 1994 he and Dixie moved to Fountain Hills, Arizona where they resided until 2013 when they moved to Waterford.

On June 27, 1953 he married Dixie S. Brown at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis by the Rev. Herbert M. Heidenreich. She preceded him in death September 17, 2019.

Most of Bill’s working life was in sales. He retired in 1994 from the Kirsch Company in Sturgis following 27 years of dedicated employment. He had also been employed by the National Carbon Coated paper Company in Sturgis for 13 years.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis and was a talented artist enjoying drawing, painting, pen & ink ,and sculpturing. He also enjoyed playing golf and fishing and loved time with the family he was most proud of. Bill was proud to have served his country in the U. S. Marine Corp earning the rank of PFC.

He is survived by two daughters: Dawn (Ronald) Narczewski of Montgomery, Illinois and Lisa (Timothy) Hensley of Hampton, Virginia; two sons: Jeffery (Arienne) Hartman of Hendersonville, Tennessee and Shawn (Sara) Hartman of Davisburg; eight grandchildren: Nickolas (Pamala) Narczewski, Kelly Narczewski, Alexandra (Michael) Stevens, Jacob Hartman, Grant (Didi) Hartman, Lauren (Joe) Scanlon, Abby (Carter) Rea and Katelin Hartman; three great grandchildren: Natalie Narczewski, Norah Narczewski and Sutton Stevens ; one sister: Velma Green of Sturgis and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving and dedicated wife: Dixie: his parents; one brother: Robert: one sister: Juanita Matthes; sisters-in-law: Betty Lou Hartman and Carolyn Hartman and brothers-in-law: Clifford Green and Edwin Matthes.

In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial graveside service and burial of the remains will take place at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, April 23rd, at the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. Mr. Larry Wallman a cousin of Bill’s will officiate. Full military honors will be conferred by Captain John J. Kelley Post #1355 VFW and the U.S. Marine Corp Guard.

The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the local arrangements.
