Proposals centering on what it would take to make Colon a destination community were ambitious yet plentiful during a community-input session Tuesday.
Ideas were across the board and included the need for more downtown parking, a greater variety of retail options, more community-oriented wintertime activities and additional amenities at municipal parks.
Tuesday’s 90-minute session was led by Michigan State University’s School of Planning, Design and Construction, as well as MSU Extension. Senior specialist Wayne Beyea facilitated the program and said afterward a solid foundation was laid.
He and a team of six assistants will return to Colon this summer for a follow-up event. They will make an additional appearance in the fall before returning a final time in early 2023 to provide Downtown Development Authority members a roadmap of sorts to begin executing a long-term plan.
