Two arrested after fleeing police

Two people were arrested Friday after attempting to flee from police in Sturgis.

The Sturgis Police Department said officers attempted to stop a Buick Rendezvous at 11:40 p.m. Friday on South Centerville Road at Fawn River Road. The vehicle had been reported stolen earlier in the day.

The driver of the vehicle drove from police and continued east on Fawn River Road. The suspect vehicle turned north on Lakeview Avenue and crashed at Kelly Road. The driver and passenger were taken into custody after they attempted to outrun police.

The driver was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, fleeing and eluding, resisting and obstructing, and was also wanted on a warrant for probation violation.

The passenger was charged with resisting and obstructing, according to police.
