Robert G. Kuhn, age 89, of Mishawaka, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, May 2, 2022 at the Primrose Retirement Center.
He was born April 23, 1933 in Alton, IL a son to the late Walter and Hilda (Gundel) Kuhn.
Bob attended schools in Alton, where he graduated from high school. He had many interests, as he was in choir, played clarinet, and excelled in multiple sports. He stood out in basketball, winning “Player of the Year” for Alton High in 1951. He also, performed so well in baseball at both Alton High and Milliken University, that he was scouted by professional teams: St. Louis Browns and other major league baseball organizations.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1953 and was stationed in Germany. He also played baseball for the U.S. Army.
On August 29, 1953 in Alton, he married Marsha LaRue Moore. She preceded him in death on Feb. 21, 2021.
Bob resided in Sturgis from 1965 to 1987 and has also lived in Decatur, IL, Linton, IN, Terre Haute, IN, Auburn, IN, Ada, MI, Holland, MI and Naperville, IL.
Bob had worked as a sales representative for Citgo fuel, then was owner of Michiana Oil Company, and retired from Shaw Carpet where he worked as a sales rep.
Surviving are two daughters: Debra Bibb of Sturgis and Cheryl (Rick) Knoedler of Wheaton, IL; two sons: Greg (Kelley) Kuhn of Murfreesboro, TN and Mike (Jami) Kuhn of Dorr, MI; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister: Wilma (Richard) Gardner; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son-in-law: Rick Bibb, and 3 brothers: Norman, Don, and Gene Kuhn.
Private services will be held at Radiant Life Church and interment will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, envelopes are available at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis who have been entrusted with the arrangements.
