Colon narrows superintendent search to two

Two finalists have been named for the job of Colon Community Schools superintendent.

The district’s board of education is staging a special meeting next week to interview the pair.

Starting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, the meeting will see the board conduct second-round interviews with Rachel Kowalski and Mike Rasmussen.

Kowalski is the former director of teaching and learning at Clintondale Community Schools in Macomb County. Rasmussen, meanwhile, is athletic director at Glen Oaks Community College. He is also Colon High School’s former principal.

Kowalski and Rasmussen made the cut from a field of four candidates who were in the first round of interviews. The others were Kristen Frisbie, principal at Ryan Elementary in Bronson, and Ben Oakley, principal at Pathfinder Education Center in Centreville.

Marty Chard has been serving as interim superintendent since February after Penny Brockway resigned to take a job with Coldwater Community Schools.
