Cass County deputies responded last week to a five-vehicle crash in Marcellus Township.
Sheriff Richard Behnke said deputies responded shortly after 3 p.m. Friday to M-40, in an area south of Brody Road.
The driver of the first vehicle was identified as Dean Miller, 58, of Mendon. The second driver was Keisha Sylvester, 31, of Kalamazoo. Authorities said the third driver was 66-year-old Loretta Ransbottom, of Marcellus. The fourth driver was identified as Marcellus resident Julie Hicks, 60, and the fifth driver was Sarah Beurmann, 40, also of Marcellus.
Investigators said Sylvester was traveling south on M-40 and slowed to turn east onto Brody Road. Miller was also traveling south on M-40, failed to stop and his vehicle collided with Sylvester’s vehicle.
Sylvester’s vehicle traveled into the northbound lane of M-40, and collided with the side of a Marcellus School bus, driven by Ransbottom. Sylvester’s vehicle continued traveling in the northbound lane of M-40 and caused a head on collision with Hicks’ vehicle.
A Marcellus school bus, driven by Beurmann, traveling north on M-40, was unable to stop and collided with Hicks’ vehicle.
Sylvester was trapped in her vehicle and had to be extricated by Marcellus Fire Department. Sylvester was transported to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo for non-life-threatening injuries.
No students on either school bus sustained injuries during the crash.
