Nottawa Schools receive school safety grant

Nottawa Community School Superintendent Jerome Wolff announced the district received the 2022 Michigan State Police School Safety Grant.

Across the state, 336 schools applied for the competitive grant, he said. Nottawa was among the 150 schools to be selected.

The district conducted a thorough needs assessment, an in-depth revision of its emergency-operation plan, and submitted a project proposal. Nottawa was awarded $50,000 to add a card-reader system to the main entrance, upgrade older classroom doors and add a PA system.

Wolff said the district has been given a June 2023 deadline to wrap up the projects. Working with Frederick Construction, the district is hopeful the improvements will be completed ahead of schedule, possibly by fall of 2022.
