Cass and St. Joseph Counties receive fair grants

Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Director Gary McDowell recently announced recipients of the 2022 competitive grants to county fairs.

Both Cass and St. Joseph counties were included.

Funds from the grants are used to make building and other capital improvements on fairground facilities.

McDowell said Cass County Fair Association received $100,000 for a Fire Suppression System for exhibit. In addition, the St. Joseph County Grange Fair was awarded $61,000 for an attraction called Pathways to the Fair. It will be a part of the 2022 fair.

The submitted grants are awarded through a competitive process and reviewed by a joint evaluation committee.

There was more than $1.4 million in funding allocated for the 2022 grant cycle, with 28 recipients receiving funding.
