Centreville names new principal

Centreville Public Schools offered the job of junior high/high school principal to Aaron Hartong.

Hartong, who has served as interim principal since February, was interviewed last week and recommended by Superintendent Chad Brady.

Board member Pam Riley raised concerns about hiring Hartong, saying he lacks the credentials and many other necessities required to be principal.

Board member Rod Detwiler, however, said he understands Riley’s concerns. Still, Detwiler defended Hartong – a 13-year district employee – saying Hartong has excelled in every capacity in which he has served.

In the end, Riley and board member Larry Walton both cast dissenting votes.

Hartong, a Centreville graduate, has served as teacher, coach and dean of students in addition to his four-month stint as interim principal.
