Gail Lynn DeMint, age 71, of Sturgis, passed away Monday, June 20, 2022 at Michigan Medicine Hospital in Ann Arbor.
She was born January 21, 1951 in Sturgis, daughter of Donald M. and Margaret June (Johnson) Krueger.
Gail was a lifelong Sturgis resident and graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1969. She furthered her education at Alma College where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in history and a minor in mathematics. While in high school and throughout college, she was a member of the band playing the clarinet.
Gail retired from the offices of the Kirsch Company in Sturgis following many years of dedicated employment.
When Gail was eleven years old her grandmother, Beatrice Krueger developed a small subdivision called the Krueger addition. Beatrice named the streets after her grandchildren. Gail grew up on Galyn Street which was named after her.
In 1968 Gail and Barb Jacobson were chosen to represent the City of Sturgis as good will ambassadors traveling to Wiesloch, Germany and presented the key to the city of Sturgis to the Burgermeister of Wiesloch.
Gail enjoyed reading, going out to eat, attending the annual Homegrown Festival and shopping with QVC.
She is survived by one daughter: Tracy (Jason) Halferty of Howe, Indiana; granddaughter: Ayden Halferty; mother: Margaret June Krueger of Sturgis; step-sons: David DeMint and Brent (Carmen) DeMint; step-granddaughter: Makayla Winkler; step-grandson: Ethan DeMint; sisters: Merrie Beth (Bill) Schlabach and Martha (Larry) Critchfield; niece: Ashley Warnament; nephews: Tim (Jessica) Warnament, Brian Warnament and Justin (Thyra) Schlabach; great nieces: June and Annabelle Schlabach and great nephew: Cooper Schlabach.
She was preceded in death by her father.
In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate and honor the life of Gail Lynn DeMint will be held at a later date to be announced.
