Home destroyed in fire caused by car crash

Deputies responded earlier this week to a single-vehicle crash in Colon Township.

Sheriff Mark Lillywhite said deputies were called shortly after 12:30 a.m. Monday to the area of Burr Oak Road and West Palmer Lake Road, where the victim was trapped inside the vehicle.

Upon arrival, Deputies located a single-family home fully engulfed in flames. Deputies noted that the driver’s vehicle had left the roadway and struck the home. Authorities concluded the vehicle struck a gas line, which led to the fire. Nobody was home at the time and the house was declared a total loss.

The driver, a 25-year-old Three Rivers man, was arrested, though pending charges were not listed in a department media release.
