Joan Garnet Barnhart, age 88, of Three Rivers, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born January 16, 1934 in Chicago, the daughter of Donald and Garnet (Patrick) Bell. She graduated from Three Rivers High School with the Class of 1952.
In sixth grade, Joan saw the new boy in class – Rolland “Roddy” Barnhart – and handed her friend a note stating she would marry him someday. She kept that promise on May 23, 1953, and this past month, they celebrated their 69th anniversary.
A homemaker who raised three children, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as collecting cookbooks. She was a member of the First Church of God in Three Rivers.
Remaining to cherish her memory are her husband, Rolland “Roddy” Barnhart; daughters, Jodee (Bill) Ratering and Julie (Fred) Krull; grandchildren, Coree (Peter) Bachinski, Amber (Doug) Williams, Nicholas (Emily) Ratering, Abby (Kurt) Ivins, Adam (Hope) Krull, Eric (Christy) Krull, Nicole (Jay) McClish and Lauren Barnhart; many beloved great-grandchildren; niece, Belinda (Mike) Knapp; and nephew, Kim (Maria) Losik.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Garnet Bell; and a son, Mark Barnhart.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Hohner Funeral Home, 1004 Arnold St., Three Rivers. A memorial service will follow at noon at the funeral home with Pastor Madonna Snyder officiating.
Donations in Joan’s memory may be directed to ProMedica Hospice or Safe Haven Assisted Living. Envelopes are available at the funeral home in care of her arrangements.
