Sturgis begins outdoor movie series

“Movies in the Park” summer series begins this week in downtown Sturgis.

A showing of “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is featured at 7 p.m. Friday on North Street, between U.S. 12 and John Street.

Presented by Sturgis Downtown Development Authority, this marks the third year of the seasonal outdoor showings, said Ryan Conrod, event coordinator. Prior to that, a few films were shown occasionally, but not on a consistent, monthly basis, from June to September, Conrod said.

Friday’s event also includes a bounce house and food vendors. Concessions are available at Strand Theatre. Those who attend are encouraged to take chairs or blankets for seating.

Movies are intended for all ages.

The remainder of the series will feature:

“A League of Their Own,” July 15; “Oz: The Great and Powerful,” Aug. 12; and “Jurassic World,” Sept. 16.
