Colon magic business relocating

A magic-related business in downtown Colon is relocating its day-to-day operations to Kalamazoo County.

In addition, Grand Magic Theater owner Duane Laflin said he plans to retire at the end of summer and will be closing his business, too.

Rick Fisher, who has owned and operated FAB Magic for its 19 years on East State Street, said he is moving Sept. 1 to a recently redeveloped, 2,400-square-foot building in Vicksburg.

Fisher, 63, said he plans to keep his current location for storage and special events. He and his family also plan to continue to live in Colon. But, Fisher said, Vicksburg will offer a stronger business climate and greater support overall.

Fisher said his online business remains strong and the impending move will not impact that method sales. But more foot traffic and a healthier business climate are what Fisher said FAB Magic are seeking. He said Vicksburg offers unlimited potential to fulfill those needs.

Fisher said he has a full-time metal and woodshop employee who will continue to operate at a location in Colon.

Laflin, meanwhile, said he and his wife are planning to retire at the end of summer. They are moving back to Branson, Mo., to be closer to their kids and grandkids.

Grand Magic Theater opened in 2021.
