A Constantine Fire Department rescue truck was destroyed by what appears to be an engine-related blaze last week.
Chief Mike Haydon said the incident occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m. Friday at the department’s headquarters in its main apparatus bay.
Haydon said an on-duty member was conducting a monthly maintenance check on a rescue truck. Shortly after completing the inspection and moving the vehicle back into its bay, the firefighter investigated a sound, opened the door to the apparatus bay, and encountered smoke and fire coming from the rescue truck.
The firefighter was able to move an engine from the station and begin battling the fire. It was quickly extinguished with help from other personnel. Cause of the fire appears to be an electrical or mechanical failure in the engine compartment.
