Ernestine (Howe) Renner, age 86, of Klinger Lake, Sturgis, passed away Wednesday evening, July 20, 2022 at her home under the loving care of her family.
She was born August 23, 1935 in Kalamazoo, daughter of the late Edgar and Evelyn (Heisler) Howe.
Ernestine, known by most as Ernie was a graduate of Kalamazoo State High School with the class of 1953 and furthered her education at Western Michigan University.
Originally from Kalamazoo, Ernestine married Warren Renner of Sturgis in 1955, and after a few years in Kalamazoo, and a couple years living in Connecticut, they moved back to Michigan and settled in Battle Creek where they raised their four children. Later in retirement years, Ernestine and Warren moved to Klinger Lake.
In Ernestine’s early years she enjoyed Girl Scouts, summer camps, horseback riding and days on her grandparent’s farm.
She started work at Michigan Bell Phone Company when she was only 16 years old. After taking a few years off to get married and have a family, she returned to the phone company retiring in 1984.
Ernestine and Warren co-founded the Pine River Rubber Ducky Club and enjoyed several years canoeing with family and friends. They also enjoyed many years as members of the Buckles and Bows Square Dance Club. Ernestine loved campouts, especially the campfires. What she loved the most was hosting huge family gatherings especially at the lake and for all the holidays. She took so much delight in her family and especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters: Kathryn (Mark) Wunderlin, Linda (Todd) Boyer and Patricia Renner; grandchildren: Eric (Chayo) Renner, Linda Renner, Lisa (Jason) Huggett, Mark Wunderlin, Matthew Wunderlin and Trevor Boyer; great grandchildren: Devin and Molly Huggett, Micah Wunderlin, Raphael and Arielle Wunderlin and Hunter Hayes Boyer; sister: Helen (Pete) Sprecher and several much loved cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son: David Renner; brothers: George (Carol) and Michael (Bonnie) Howe and sister: Harriette (Raymond) Berndt.
In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. The family will be observing a private celebration of life at a later date.
The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements.
