County unemployment rose in June

June’s unemployment rate in St. Joseph County rose by six-tenths of a percent from May.

The monthly labor-market analysis by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget was released recently. It showed St. Joseph County’s unemployment rate rose from 4.1 percent in May to 4.7 percent in June.

The rate was 6.2 percent 12 months earlier.

Meanwhile, Cass County experienced an increase in its unemployment figures from May to June. Its May rate was 4 percent and rose to 4.8 percent a month later.

Also, Branch County’s one-month unemployment rate rose in June from the previous month. It was 3.9 percent in May and grew to 4.5 percent in June.

Michigan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for June was 4.3 percent, unchanged from the month before.
