Michigan coronavirus cases decrease

Michigan reported fewer coronavirus cases in the week ending Aug. 14, adding more than 16,000 new cases. That’s down 20 percent from the previous week’s tally of more than 20,000 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19.

St. Joseph County reported 128 cases and two deaths in the latest week. A week earlier, it had reported 107 cases and zero deaths. Throughout the pandemic, it has reported 14,664 cases and 214 deaths.

Cases fell in 58 Michigan counties, with the steepest declines in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. The worst weekly outbreaks on a per-person basis were in Ontonagon, Iron and Keweenaw counties.
