She was born December 12, 1938 in Fulton County, IN, the daughter of Kenneth J. and Betty G. (Nolen) Scott. She attended school in Elkhart before marrying her first husband and father of her children, Eugene Sanders. Raising eight children kept Carol busy, but she also worked in manufacturing and was Secretary of the Union for Elkhart Brass, from where she eventually retired. She remarried and spent the remainder of her life devoted to her husband, Bill Newman, even after he passed on.
Carol was a member of the Three Rivers Moose Lodge, a Golden Member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and spent many years supporting veterans through her participation with the American Legion Auxiliary.
Carol spent over 30 years traveling to Camp Perry, OH in the summers to support Bill during the National Rifle Matches, she enjoyed camping and mushroom hunting with her family up north in Mesick, and bowling on leagues in Elkhart and Three Rivers for the majority of her life. In her free time she enjoyed sewing and crocheting, canning, reading, tending to her houseplants, playing bingo, donating blood as a universal donor, going to yard sales, collecting John Wayne memorabilia, watching game shows, and riding around with the top down with her youngest granddaughters, Houston and Cory Sanders.
Remaining to cherish her memory are her children, James “Jim” (Connie) Sanders, Eugene (Rosalie) Sanders Jr., Donna Sanders, Leona (Steve) Ames, and Kenneth “Butch” (Becky) Sanders; siblings, Kenneth “Butch” Scott, Elaine Luebke, BJ Scott, and Barbara “Bobbie” Sartin; many nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Betty and Kenneth Scott; husband, Bill Newman; ex husband, Eugene Sanders; children, Gary Sanders, Gregory Sanders, and David Sanders; daughter in law, Patricia Sanders; siblings, Charles “Marion” Scott and Janet Sanders.
Services will be held at Hohner Funeral Home, 1004 Arnold St., Three Rivers, on Saturday, October 15, 2022; visitation will be from 10am to 12pm, a funeral service will follow at 12pm, with Norm Stutesman officiating. She will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery. Immediately following all services there will be a luncheon at The Eagles, 715 E. Hoffman St., Three Rivers.
