Fundraiser will help build pavilion at fair

A fundraising effort to construct a memorial pavilion shelter is being spearheaded by the St. Joseph County Grange Fair.

The memorial is to honor Jerry Waltke, Fair Board president in 2021 and a 13-year Fair Board director. Before that, Waltke had been involved in the fair for decades.

He passed away unexpectedly in November.

Fair officials said his granddaughter, Brynleigh Sherman will be auctioning off her pig during the large animal auction Thursday next week and she will put all proceeds toward the project fundraiser.

The proposed structure will be built between the 4-H cattle barn and the open-class cattle barn. It will cover the wash rack and allow 4-H exhibitors to wash their animals in the shade or out of the elements in preparation for show day.

Donations can be made by phoning 260-350-1912.
