James William Handy, Jr. passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 14, 2022, at the age of 63. He was born on January 1, 1959, in Paris, France. He attended Torrejon Air Base High School in Madrid, Spain, and later graduated from Three Rivers High School with the class of 1977. He served in the United States Air Force from June 16, 1977 to June 30, 1998 as a KC-135 In-Flight Air Refueling Technician (Boom Operator). He retired after 21 years of service.
Jim is survived by his wife Terri, his daughters Lisa Handy and Elizabeth (Scott) Bohdan, his parents James Sr. and Donna Handy, his siblings Clifford (Sheila) Handy, Theresa (Kenneth) Winter, and Gerald (Ruth) Handy; stepdaughters Tara (Kenneth) Brown, Autumn (Benjamin) Mink, and Valerie (Ryan) Leath. He was a loving grandfather to Blake, Zoey, Peyton, Gideon, Brooklyn, and Kelsea. Jim is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews, and will be missed by his dogs Gracie and Molly.
Funeral services were held on Friday, August 26, 2022 at the First Lutheran Church in Plattsmouth, NE.
Burial, with military honors, was held at the Omaha National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Strategic Air Command and Aerospace Museum or to the American Kidney Foundation.
