Sturgis man sentenced in counterfeit case

St. Joseph County Circuit Court Judge Paul Stutesman has sentenced a Sturgis man for counterfeit activity.

Scott Bressler, 41, received eight months in the county jail for running an operation that involved obtaining fake IDs, and using computers to forge and counterfeit checks from various businesses.

Bressler pleaded guilty to forgery as a 40-year offense. He also admitted to using a computer in the commission of a felony and counterfeiting state identification.

Stutesman called Bressler’s work a sophisticated operation, going so far as to meticulously recreate company logos.

Prosecutor David Marvin said Bressler will face more court time soon, as six different entities have issued warrants for his arrest for similar charges.
