Sturgis Planning Commission approves Abbott project

A site plan for an expansion project at Abbott Manufacturing, which will include a second facility tower, was approved recently by the Sturgis Planning Commission.

The city received a site plan for review from Abbott Manufacturing Inc. for the property at 901 N. Centerville Road. Abbott is looking to build three additions to the existing building and include a parking area, loading dock, storm-water management system for new expansion, additional utilities, a new chemical-drain line and site circulation improvements.

The three separate additions include a 35,000 square-foot expansion to the northeast corner of the warehouse building for a new dryer nearly 130 feet high.

A water-treatment room, and boiler and compressor are slated for construction sometime next year.
