Suspect breaks through walls and escapes

A suspect wanted on an unspecified warrant managed to elude authorities during a standoff with officers over the weekend in Three Rivers.

According to a department media release, officers were called around 5:30 p.m. Saturday in response to a wanted suspect located in the 1200 block of Hov Aire Drive.

Police said the suspect barricaded himself inside an apartment unit. Three Rivers authorities as well as deputies from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department attempted to engage in negotiations with the suspect.

St. Joseph County Special Response Team was activated and a search warrant was obtained for the residence. Officials said numerous attempts to contact the suspect were made but after no response, entry was made.

Once inside, officers discovered the suspect had broken through several walls to adjoining apartments and was able to escape.
