Thomas J. Garman, age 74, of Sturgis, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2022 at his home. He was born in Cassopolis on July 25, 1948 and was the adopted son of Joseph H. and Wilma R. (Cook) Garman, and was a lifetime resident of southwest Michigan. He graduated from Mendon High School with the Class of 1968. Tom was employed briefly at Denton Mills in Centreville, for many years at Process Metals in White Pigeon, and at Kroger in Sturgis. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching old movies and fishing, and he was a member of the North American Fishing Club.
Tom was married to Cola Lego on Oct. 7, 2000 in Sturgis. She survives along with two daughters, Maria (Jay Watson) Garman of Sherwood and Taya (Mike) Voorde of Mendon; son, James Lego of Sturgis; three grandchildren, Destini Perkins, Erica Voorde, and Anthony Voorde; three great-grandchildren, Matthew, Elizabeth, and Alexander. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Gordon; his father, Joe Garman; and his mother, Wilma Bordner.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has been conducted. A graveside memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022 in Mendon Cemetery with Rev. Carl Litchfield of the Mendon United Methodist Church officiating. Memorial contributions will be directed to the family. Arrangements were by the Eickhoff Funeral Home of Mendon.
