Centreville man found guilty on fleeing charge

A Centreville man who led authorities on a pursuit that exceeded 100 miles per hour was found guilty during a one-day jury trial this week.

Prosecutor David Marvin said a jury found Daniel Wagner, 41, guilty of fleeing/eluding an officer – fourth degree – as a habitual offender. The verdict was announced Tuesday.

Marvin said the charge stems from a July 3 incident, in which a St. Joseph County Sheriff deputy attempted to stop a speeding motorist in the village of Centreville. The motorist, later identified as Wagner, failed to stop and took evasive maneuvers.

Wagner ultimately fled the vehicle and hid in a swamp, where he was located by a Michigan State Police K-9 unit. He faces up to 15 years in prison.

Sentencing is set for Dec. 16.
