Dewey Moore, 93

On July 27, 2022, Pastor Dewey E. Moore went from this earth to his eternal home in Heaven where he has been rewarded for his life-long service to the Lord.

Dewey influenced many lives for Jesus. He accepted Christ as his Savior during his military service in Alabama and felt God calling him into full-time ministry. Shortly after Dewey’s salvation decision, Dewey married Ruth, who had dedicated her life to being a pastor’s wife. When released from the military, they went to Moody Bible Institute to prepare for ministry.

Over the span of 50 years, they ministered at Griffith Baptist Church, Melrose Park Bible Church, Wyoming Park Baptist Church, Community Baptist Church in Arvada, Co., Grace Bible Church in Owosso, First Baptist Church of Wayland, and Moline Baptist Church. The last church, Moline Baptist Church, where Dewey served as Senior Saints Pastor, was also the church where Ruth and Dewey were married.

God blessed their ministry in these churches. Many people were saved and grew in their relationship with Jesus Christ. Included in the lives of those influenced by their ministry were the youth pastors where Dewey served. Many of them went on to be pastors. The full extent of God’s work through Dewey and Ruth’s ministry will never be known until we get to Heaven.

Dewey’s life was devoted to ministry, but he also had other interests. He enjoyed sports (especially softball, ping pong, golf, and tennis), telling jokes repeatedly, gardening, and singing gospel music.

God blessed Dewey and Ruth with two boys, Gary and Tim, whom they loved and cherished. They were also blessed with two daughters-in-law, Sherry and Becky. They had six grandchildren, Crystal, Amber, Garrett, Rachel, Randall, and Renee, who all later married and blessed them with 16 great-grandchildren. All were loved and enjoyed by Dewey. The most important legacy Dewey could leave them was his commitment to pray for them.

Thank you for all the cards, phone calls, and messages. They have been a great encouragement to the family.

Visitation will be held Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethany Chapel, 15130 Millard Rd., Three Rivers. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon after the service.

Donations in Dewey’s memory may be directed to Birches Adult Care, Gideons, or Bethany Chapel. Envelopes will be available at the church and at Hohner Funeral Home.
