Dexter W. Snyder, age 79, of Mendon, died Thursday, October 20, 2022 following a brief illness. He was born in Battle Creek on Nov. 26, 1942 the son of Willard W. and Beverly J. (Given) Snyder and grew up on a farm west of Mendon. He was a member of the Mendon High School Class of 1961. He continued to farm, worked at Lear Plastics for 42 years, drove a school bus for Mendon Public Schools for 13 years, and served on the Mendon Township Zoning Board. A man of faith, he most recently attended the Life Church in Centreville. He was a Mendon sports booster and University of Michigan fan. He especially enjoyed following his grandson’s baseball career, and spending time with all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He collected and restored old tractors after retirement, and enjoyed trap-shooting with his father.
Dexter was married to Charlotte Wheeler on Jan. 19, 1963 in Centreville. She survives along with three children, Richard (Shellie) Snyder of Mendon, Cheryl (Rick) Howe of Three Rivers, and Amy (Brian) Decker of Leonidas; six grandchildren, Chad (Katie) Snyder, Kylie (Jake) Rowe, Jacob Howe, Spencer (Tiffany) Howe, Clay Decker, and Cole Decker; five great-grandchildren; a brother, John Snyder of Kalamazoo; brother-in-law, Chuck Shearer of Vicksburg; several nieces and nephews; in-laws; and by his faithful dog, Jack. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Shearer; sister-in-law, Ginger Snyder, and two brothers-in-law.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 pm Sunday at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. A family only funeral service will be held Monday at the funeral home, followed by cremation.
