Long recovery for teen struck by car

A Sturgis Middle School student remains unconscious after she was struck by a car while waiting for her school bus Monday morning in Fawn River Township.

Sturgis Public Schools officials said the family of 13-year-old Adriyanna Spillner issued an update on her medical condition.

Spillner’s family told school officials she has a brain injury and faces a long road to recovery. The process will involve in-patient rehabilitation in Grand Rapids in due time.

She was struck by a car being driven west on Fawn River Road when it struck Spillner near Big Hill Road. The 16-year-old driver and a passenger were not injured.

Spillner was treated initially at Sturgis Hospital then airlifted to Bronson Methodist Hospital.
