Netta June Fennell, age 92, of Burr Oak, passed away Friday morning, September 30, 2022 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born June 28, 1930 daughter of the late Stanley and Gladys (Work) Brooks.
Netta June was a lifelong Burr Oak resident. Her education began at the Eberhart School where she attended primer and first grade moving on to Burr Oak Community Schools where she graduated. She furthered her education at Western Michigan College where she earned a bachelor degree in teaching.
On June 30, 1951 she married Wayne Arthur Fennell. In 1952 the couple moved to the farm home where they lived out the rest of their lives.
Mrs. Fennell began her teaching career at the Bogen two teacher school where she taught for three years before accepting a teaching position at Burr Oak Community where she taught elementary education for 27 years retiring in 1982. Being one to never sit idle she became more involved and active at the family farm working until fully retiring in 1995.
She enjoyed extensive travels, gardening, and the hummingbirds.
Mrs. Fennell is survived by three nephews: Steven (Joyce) Brooks of Sturgis, Robert (Cathy) Brooks and Stanley Joe (Kelli) Brooks both of Burr Oak and several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, 7 months and six days, also her parents; brother and his wife: Ebert and Gladys Marilyn Brooks; great nephew: Dennis Dale Brooks; great great nephews: Maddox Ebert Brooks and Isaac Paul Brooks.
Private burial will take place at the Burr Oak Cemetery. A memorial service celebrating the life of Netta June Fennell will be held at a later date to be announced.
The Hackman Family Funeral Homes of Sturgis is entrusted with the arrangements.
