Nora Stevens, 90

Nora (Rustad) Stevens, age 90, of Sturgis, passed away Wednesday morning, October 5, 2022 at Glenn Arbor Hospice in Battle Creek.

She was born December 3, 1931 in Rolette, North Dakota, daughter of the late Edward and Ida (Rustad) Lacroix.

In 1977, she married Richard Stevens. They loved to fish and travel to many places across the county until his death in 2000.

During her working years, she was an upholsterer at the Harter Corporation in Sturgis.

Nora was an avid gardener, canned tomatoes and pickles every year. She traveled with her friend Frances to shop, play cards and bingo. She enjoyed her neighbors. Most of all she loved spending time with her family playing Skip-Bo, loved watching her birds, going to flea markets and garage sales.

She is survived by two daughters, Jan (Chris) Cassell of Brookfield, IL, Brenda (Jeff) Mark of Warsaw, IN, a son, Dwight (Val) Holland of Hurricane, UT; seven grandchildren, Thomas (Cortni) Cassell of Terre Haute, IN, Hollie (Josh) Butler of Oregon City, OR, Douglas Rosson of Oregon, Richard Levitz of Sturgis, David (Diane) Holland, Matt (Linda) Holland, and Chris Holland all of Modesto, CA.; one sister Aileen Morrison and one brother Walter Rustad. She has many great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Stevens, two daughters, Verna Gottschalk, Linda Levitz, one son, Jerry Kilen, three sisters, Adeline Bontrager, Cora Miller, Arla Trowbridge and one brother Edward Rustad.

A special and heartfelt thank you to Kathy Gillette, Aileen Morrison, Gail LaCount, Allen Rustad, the Whitsel family and Michelle Wiley, the Crites family, and the Miller family. It takes a village and you made her days brighter and safer. The family would like to express a big thank you to the nurses at Glenn Arbor for their expertise, loving kindness and comfort. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial graveside service and burial of the remains will take place at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis. A continued time of fellowship and the sharing of a meal will follow the service at one of Nora’s favorite restaurants the Country Table in White Pigeon.
