Sturgis considers bike paths as part of resurfacing project

The city of Sturgis is planning to resurface North Lakeview Avenue in two separate projects next year, but the bigger news is part of that plan may include development of bike paths in lieu of parking along the street.

Sturgis City Commission members last week had a public hearing to get feedback and discuss the bike path proposal.

North Lakeview Avenue is scheduled to be paved in April. A resident emailed city staff in August, asking the city to consider installing bike lanes when the paving is complete, similar to treatment completed on North Lakeview Avenue from U.S. 12 to the railroad tracks.

The topic is expected to be discussed in greater detail at the city commission’s Oct. 26 meeting.
