Car stolen in Portage

A Three Rivers man was arrested for allegedly stealing a car in Portage, according to the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office.

The 35-year-old was found driving the stolen car on North Avenue, near South 29th Street, in Kalamazoo County’s Pavilion Township at 9 a.m. Tuesday, deputies said.

Deputies tried talking to the man, but he sped away in a southbound direction on 29th Street, they said.

The suspect then abandoned the car on East O Avenue and fled the scene on foot, according to the sheriff’s office. Despite hiding in a heavily wooded area, the man was found by a Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety K-9 and arrested on multiple charges.

Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office has not released the name of the man or what charges he faces, at this time.
