Centreville school board considers millage-renewal request

Centreville Public Schools is inching closer to whether it will turn to voters regarding a potential millage-renewal request.

Superintendent Chad Brady said he expects a decision on the matter to be yielded at the board of education’s Dec. 12 meeting.

Brady said the district has cast a wide-reaching net in an effort to secure valid input. Besides staff and student input, the district conducted a “Bulldog Blueprint” last month, and another session is set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Centreville Elementary’s library.

Brady said enrollment projections call for the district to exceed 900 students within five years. With 852 students, it is the fourth-largest of St. Joseph County’s eight K-12 school districts.

Brady said he hopes Tuesday’s program at the K-6 elementary school is well attended, as feedback from the public is critical in helping the board decide what action to take, or not take.

The earliest the district could ask voters to weigh in on a request is May 2.
