ISD discontinues EI support

Centreville school officials are reviewing their options after learning the St. Joseph County Intermediate School District is discontinuing a support program for students who are emotionally impaired.

During their meeting Monday, board of education members learned from superintendent Chad Brady that the EI support program operated through the ISD’s Pathfinder Center will close Dec. 23.

What that means, Brady noted, is any students in the EI program will return to their home district, as the ISD has exhausted all efforts to try to find staffing.

Brady said the situation may not be permanent. For the moment and foreseeable future, however, the lack of staff makes it impossible to support EI students, he added.

He said the program services students at the secondary level.

Brady plans to meet with the district’s attorneys to review the situation and, among other things, find out what obligations must be absorbed by the district if EI students start attending classes at Centreville High School.

  1. Our schools use triple-digit federal funds on so-called security systems in case of a school shooter, do nothing to control gun possession and nothing for emotionally impaired students? This shows how skewed we are!
