Jeanne Fellows

Jeanne E. Fellows, a Fish Lake – Sturgis resident, died on Thursday, December 22, 2022.

Jeanne always loved being the “life of the party” and as of December 22, 2022 she will be celebrating for eternity with her Savior Jesus and all of her loves ones that left before her that she has been longing to see.

The house still stands on M-86 in Nottawa where Jeanne was born to Harry (the barber) and Jessie Young. They later moved to 214 Jane St. in Centreville where she grew up with her five brothers and sisters. Her best friends were Mildred (Mid) Weed, Jean Truckenmiller, Helen Brueck, Betty Comeau, Nina, Mamie and later Dorothy Drumm. A year before she was to graduate high school, she decided she would rather go to work and became a telephone operator for the Village of Centreville located at 221 W. Main. She later moved to Three Rivers and was an operator there also. That is where she met the Fellows sisters who encouraged her to get to know their brother Bob, and the rest is history.

Bob & Jeanne wed in Angola on October 29, 1949. They began their life together in Schoolcraft, moving to Kalamazoo when their daughter Connie was born. They moved to Wayland when Bob went to work for Standard Oil. They lived there for five years during which time their son Bob was born. After Bob’s job with Standard Oil ended, the family moved back to Kalamazoo and lived there for seven years before moving back to where it all began. They bought a home at Big Fish Lake, Sturgis in 1967 and lived there together for forty-seven years. Bob became a custodian at Centreville Schools, retiring in 1985. They were always on the go and especially loved to go camping. Jeanne was a stay-at-home wife and mother except for a part-time job washing dishes at Millie’s Restaurant in Centreville. In 2014, Bob moved to Fairview Nursing and Rehab when Jeanne could no longer care for his physical needs, although she tried her best. She continued to live at Fish Lake until Dec. 19, 2022 with her daughter caring for her every day.

When Jeanne left her earthly home and moved to Paradise, she was reunited with Bob again, who went ahead of her on October 9, 2016. Hopefully she was also reunited with her parents, her sister Virginia Truckenmiller, her brother Howard Young, her brother Harry Young, Jr. and her sister Hazel Hagenbuch.

Those left waiting to see her again are her daughter Connie Harter, her son Bob Fellows (Sue), her sister Alice Keith, and lastly her caring neighbors Kim & Lori Kehl, Karl Kopec, Terry Dykstra and Phyllis Ganger.

Relatives and friends will be received Monday Dec. 26, 2022 at Eley Funeral Home in Centreville from 1 to 2 PM, where services will follow at 2:00 with Pastor David Peterson officiating. Interment will take place at Prairie River Cemetery. Please visit Jeanne’s page to sign her guestbook and leave a memory for her family at www.eleyfuneralhomes.com.
